Founded in 1900, Walthamstow Avenue Football Club were one of the great names in English amateur football. Among their honours, they won the F.A. Amateur Cup at Wembley in 1952 and 1961, the Athenian League 5 times, and the Isthmian League 3 times.
They also faced league opposition in the F.A. Cup many times, and famously drew with Manchester United at Old Trafford in 1953 (losing the replay at Highbury).
In 1988 'The Avenue' ceased to exist when they merged with Leytonstone/Ilford. Leytonstone/Ilford later became Redbridge Forest who finally merged with Dagenham to form the present day Dagenham & Redbridge.
Walthamstow Avenue played at Green Pond Road, E17, London. Sadly, the ground no longer exists and housing now stands on the site.
